Default Repair Drones

I was recently involved in a mega-battle and my only Hammerhead took critical damage. The loss if its main weapon. With nothing else to counter a baneblade, I was annihilated. The Imperium have techmarines and Enginseers. In Dawn of War, there were Earth caste builder units. Wouldn't it be nice if we in the Tau had something like that?

It would be nice, but apparently the Earth cast has the sense to stay the heck away from nasty aliens who shoot at them!

We have the models in the DX-4 Technical Drone but I don't think there are any rules yet.
But going against a Baneblade with a single railhead?

soon as i read this i had a thought for some temp house rules you could possibly use

OK here goes first take the basic stats of a drone (theres your base setting for it) then you simply give it the same special rule as a techpriest enginseer

Blessing of the machine spirit: a tech priest who starts the turn in contact with a damaged vehicle may attempt to make a repair. if the vehicle is immobilized or has a weapon destroyed one of these defects (chosen by the techpriest) is fixed on a roll of 6+ the tech priest gets +1 for each technical servitor accompanying him.
(direct from the rulebook :P)

and instead of having servitors you just add more drones... cost is up to you but try to make it fair.

I definitely second this... if your only anti-tank is a Railhead, I would stay away from Megabattles for a while...

Basic rule: To counter a superheavy, you need a superheavy on your own (which means Tigershark A-X-1 variant) - or at least a full squad of Broadsides - with Shield Drones, preferably. Or three Railheads, but I dislike using Hammerheads for tank-hunting, actually - they're so easily stunned or shaken.

The DX-4 Technical Drone has a rule in IA3 where they can repair drone sentry turrets. And it's suggested they're used to represent the 'Combat Engineer' stratagem from Cities of Death.

But it still should be added to the main Codex as a vehicle repair option. :P Make it half the cost of the main weapon (45 on for a railhead)?

my IA3 doesnt have a single mention of the DX-4.

They are nice models. Too bad there's no real rules for 'em!
