Default Throwing Grenades?

What would you guys think of throwing grenades? So a Frag Grenade would have the S and AP that it would have against a tank, but it would have a G12" range, pinning. Now thast I look back on it, it doesn't seem so great, but I'd like to know what you guys think of it.

Going by Demo-Charges, thrown grenades would have a range of 6".


Suggested rules are as follows:

Frag: Str 3 Ap 6 Assault 1 Blast.
Krak: Str 6 Ap 4 Assault 1.
Photon: Any squad hit must take a Pinning test.
Tau/Imperial EMP: Str 0 Ap 6 Assault 1 Blast. Causes a Glancing Hit on a roll of 6 against vehicles.*
Eldar EMP: Str 0 Ap 6 Assault 1 Blast. Causes a Glancing Hit on a roll of 4-5, and a Penetrating Hit on a roll of 6.*

* = This is to make it preferable to charge with them, rather than throw them.

Demo charges are much bigger and heavier than grenades, so would have a shorter range.

But having grenades at range 12" would unbalance them. They would eliminate any use for shotguns (especially if a frag is blast), and would generally be unfun. Also, fast moving troops with them would be able to effectively get a 24" range with them or so (ex. Space Marine Assault Troops).

I like and don't like this idea. This seems to be more of a fluff rule, as the ability to throw grenades like this doesn't have a huge tactical sense, and you would have to add a little bit more points for effectively having another weapon (granted short ranged, but still... effective (?) enough).

you used to be able to throw grenades in the third addition, but it was very random and took alot of time, you had to scatter each grenade thrown, when I played guard sometimes the grenades would scatter back and kill my own troops

grenades are better with the limited rules they have in the current rules

you also had many different types of grenades things like vortex, plasma, blind grenades, tangle foot, virus, and many others. Different type of game play with stuff like that

Nobody throws a grenade straight up. If it's going to scatter, scatter it D3".

in the old rules it was one d6 scatter

I know, but is it realistic to have a guardsman hurl a grenade which in real life will probably go about 20-30 meters or so, only to have it land at his feet?

So why not have range be at 8" and scatter D3"?
