Default Disbanded no longer a convo

Okay please dont not kill me if this has already been thought of, it came to me last night in a dream (to much sugar).

Anyways alot of gamers out there hate the cost of 40K but love the game over the models. What if you down sized the 40K game? To Epic I hear you say not quite, using the epic models you can make a space marine 40K army or whatever you play the only thing needed to be done is the shrinking of shooting/templates/movement /boards now instead of inches use cm's (measure templates and cut them out to the right size etc). Also some options may have to be modified but at that size how hard could it be?

Some of you may think im mad (even if I do this certain models will have to be bought out of sheer coolness)
Epic sized model links:

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog...40_000_39.html My personal FW faves are the Grey Knight epic models ;D

What do you guys think its more portable and nicer on the pocket?

(please shoot me after leaving a comment thank you

well you would have to do a bit of basework and stuff, but it could work out quite well, i like it.

Your poll...

Doesn't really give me the option that I want which is: GW has the game designed they way they want it, which is: So they make money.

Have you bought a $20 XV8 Crisis battlesuit? There's like 2 sprues of plastic in there. And that costs $20? Not hardly! GW probably has a pretty large COGS, because they probably factor in the website and the cost of running events like Medusa V, and local gaming events, as marketing expenses (as well they should!).

If they shrunk things down, I'm quite sure they would think of a way to continue to make enough of a profit off the game that they would still be regarded as "soaking" the players.

Still, to address your actual idea - I don't like it. Because I'm getting old(er) and my eyes aren't what they used to be. I don't want to have to spend ages on each model just because my hands shook and my eyes blurred and my painting was off.

40mm is just fine with me.

wow I have never even seen the epic grey knights models, I didn't even know people still made epic stuff.

I personally don't see how anyone playing warhammer 40k would prefer the game to the models to the point where they'd sacrifice the sheer awesomeness and detail and go for a smaller scale, where you can barely pick up each individual model (it's no coincidence that every advertisement for these models shows them on formation boards).

On that note of making cheaper armies, why don't we replace all models with cardboard tokens with a crude drawing on each one to indicate what model it is?

Let's do a price comparison. I've also factored in painting/constructing time, etc:

Cost of a pack of 5 40K Grey Knights terminators: $30 GBP, half an hour of construction/posing, and 10 hours of painting.

Cost of a pack of 10 Epic Grey Knights terminators: $7 GBP and 4 hours of painting.

Cost of a pack of 100 cardboard discs representing Grey Knights terminators: like, you know, 4 bucks and an hour to cut them out.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~
WHOA. Here I've been wasting money buying models, when all this time I could have just used cardboard to represent my army?! what have I been smoking?
This idea does not phase me. The only way I see this somewhat working but still being horrible IMO, would be if people preferred gaming over painting, converting, putting together, epic and paying money.
Even then, why not just play epic, that is basically what you are doing.
Why not just dip you models in different colours and call them paints?
Why not just saw off limbs and call it converting?
Why not just use epic models to represent 40k?
This is how I see your idea in comparison to other parts of the hobby?
I apologize if have offended you, I simply had liked my thoughts to be pondered.
The obvious flaw with this idea is that it requires two or more people to do it.
It's all well and good if you make yourself a 10mm 40k army because it's cheaper/faster/easier. However if no one else makes an army at the same scale you'll never be able to use yours.
Honestly if you wanna use epic minis just play epic.
If you want to play 40k for cheap make some 1" plastic tokens and just write "Space Marine with bolter" on them.
Hmm i seem to remember that this idea was the same as "Travel 40k" - Ie. 40k using epic minis on a cork tile battlefield (stick pins to the bottom of the epic minis and then they can be placed into the cork tile , allowing you to play...on the move)
travel-size 40k?! sounds fun! greaat for rediculously long trips! perhaps make it tile-based instead of measures to make it easier to play. (advance wars, anyone?) but on the tabletop, full-sized minis.
I seem to remember a TSOALR about this...
Travel 40k sounds great, but using it for something other than that is kinda...iffy.
