ALLIANCE BY A THREAD

An account of the Elati-Alaitoc relationship during the campaign.
(Stories about the battles for the campaign.)

Risky Beginnings

“Farseer Sevurak,” Autarch Harusyi Adino stepped lightly off of his Jetbike, flipping it off as he leaped. “I have learned my lessons. But I want to speak with you privately.”

You will get there, the Farseer said through the mind.

Harusyi looked back. The Wave Serpent carrying the wounded Pathfinders arrived behind him. Eldar psykers with healing talents rushed to their aid. He looked away, deeply grieved at his failure.

“It has been almost a century since we last fought with Alaitoc. They seem to be willing for second chance, for what we seek is of most importance.”

A presence shot in their midst as a light blue cloak appeared in an air-vibrating spasm.

Harusyi immediately went to his knee. “Executor!” he announced, “I have nothing to say but apologies. Our patience was rewarded as you indicated. The warriors fought bravely but I am afraid the few who died did so in vain.”

“You brought back most,” the Executor said commandingly, his footsteps clattered against the Wraithbone floor of the hangar. “They survived. And we shall have our revenge. I want you to go ahead and try again. At least Eldar learn from their mistakes a hundred times better than Mon’Keigh.”

Harusyi nodded his head once and stood. “Executor, by now their defenses around the objective will be strong.”

“But they won’t be expecting a swift attack this time, Harusyi.” The Executor beckoned the Autarch to follow him away from the hangar. “I want you to utilize the Pathfinders,” he whispered, “not protect them. Just as if they were any other ally. Use them as scouts, to bait the enemy and test their strength. Use them in conjunction with your war host; don’t try to revolve around them.”

Harusyi nodded. “Your words are noted.”

[hr]

Elarique Swiftblade, Autarch of Alaitoc, gracefully and firmly made his way across the platform where his personal Falcon landed. His face squinted a bit. He never before saw so many different war machines, vehicles, or aspects in one Craftworld. Or colors for that matter. He began to recognize scant creations of different Craftworlds, markings and designations that made them unique.

He gripped his fist tightly at the sight of the wounded Pathfinders. More than half of a whole squad didn’t even return. At least their losses were matched by the Dire Avengers of the Elati. Elarique’s anger was such that he felt the need to spar with the so-called Harusyi Adino to release his fury.

The first Alaitoc-Elati joint force in almost a century, and defeat loomed.

He caught sight of Farseer Sevurak making his way towards the platform.

“Make your apologies swifter than my blade,” Elarique said. “We have asked you to fight for us while we subdued our current peril, not simply bleed.”

“Please calm yourself,” Sevurak said with a short and gentle tone. His voice was sure and straight, the emotion carried through his mind to that of Elarique. Sevurak might not be the greatest psyker or most powerful warrior, but he was of the most influential with words. “One mistake is made that perfection can be reached. Are you a perfect warrior?”

Elarique wanted to be insulted just so that he had an excuse to release his anger. But it was clear that Farseer Sevurak had gained control and his tone was calm. Sevurak also usually spoke through telekinesis, but by speaking aloud he was making a point.

“We have tried to leave some of our war council behind in these matters. And a different approach to things shall be made towards victory. You have my word on that. I will see to it. I will accompany the next battle myself. Does this please you?”

Elarique quietly nodded. If it weren’t for Sevurak, this relationship might have gone terribly sour at this moment.

But will the Elati be able to hold up their end of the bargain in their second chance?
